Another year and Christmas has been and gone. Every year countless amounts of time and effort go into decorating the house, preparing the Christmas dinner and getting the perfect present for everyone dear to us. Sometimes these wonderfully thoughtful gifts can be hard to find, recently we’ve had the privilege of working with LoveKeepCreate, creators of perfect gifts in the form of Baby Clothes Keepsakes, following their recent success on the BBC’s Dragon’s Den.
Designing for Dragons
On New Year’s Day LoveKeepCreate, the Devon-based Baby Keepsake Company, delivered a phenomenal pitch to the Dragons. Their outstanding performance earned them offers from 3 of the Dragons for the £50K and 10% share of the business that they asked for, with Peter Jones adding that he thought for a moment they would be the first business in the show’s history to receive an offer for a smaller percentage of the business than asked. After brief discussion the pair chose to work with the delighted Deborah Meaden, who later tweeted, “Yessss! We’re in business… and already going strong. Merry and Rachel are everything I hoped.” She was quickly joined in her Twitter praises by viewers saying they thought it could have been the best pitch ever made to the Dragons.
Following their success in the Den, and already being familiar with the work that we create here at Friends, it felt only natural for LoveKeepCreate to turn to us for help with the packaging design of their new product: Make Your Own Keepsake Kits. We took the time to further get to know LoveKeepCreate and the brand values behind the company and their new product, as soon as LoveKeepCreate contacted us about working on this project we couldn’t wait to get going.
We love designing for clients who truly believe in their brand, and Merry and Rachel are no exception, having a genuine passion for the business they’ve built together.
Looking to pitch to national retailers, it was very important to LoveKeepCreate that the same high level of design quality was carried throughout the new product’s packaging and so Friends were asked to design the outer packaging sleeve as well as the sewing patterns and instructions for the kit. The team here at Friends felt that the addition of some unique illustration would add something really special to the designs we were creating and commissioned talented Falmouth University BA(Hons) graduate Jessica Meyrick to get on board with the project. Jessica’s illustrations really brought the instructions to life, communicating the instructions clearly to the user whilst bringing a characterful and handcrafted feel to the instruction booklet.
Over the course of the project LoveKeepCreate and Friends met and corresponded regularly, building up a better understanding of each other’s businesses and also a genuine relationship that we hope to continue and develop into 2017. One of the most satisfying parts of our jobs is seeing how happy clients are with the work we produce and the impact it has on their business. This wouldn’t be possible without building relationships, which is often one of the most enjoyable parts of our job! It has been especially gratifying to see a South West business reach national success and hear how pleased they are with the outcome of this project. We look forward to continuing to work with LoveKeepCreate in the future.”
The Make Your Own Keepsake Bunny Kit was launched at The Baby Show at Olympia, London at the end of 2016 and quickly proved extremely popular. You can find their Make Your Own Keepsake Bunny Kit alongside all of their other wonderful products at their website.
